Reading
  • Identify theme
  • Describe character types
  • Use specific text evidence to support thinking
  • Ask your child questions about his or her reading. Use this PDF for some ideas!
  • Read together and discuss what you each think about the book
  • Use picture books (Storyline Online has really great books you can listen to) and discuss themes and characters
Writing
  • Write a Personal Narrative about a small moment
  • Take multiple pieces of writing through the entire writing process: brainstorming, drafting, revision, and editing
  • Have your child write short stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end
  • Help them brainstorm small, important life moments
  • Ask to see their writing at least once a week - their drafts will in in their Writer's Notebook or Google Drive
Math
  • Identify place values from thousands to thousandths
  • Use place value to order and compare numbers
  • Practice our lessons at home with Topic 3 by logging into the Parkhill Portal and going to Pearson
  • Encourage your child to practice on his or her Khan Academy account
  • Go over your child's independent practice when it comes home throughout the week
